Authorities on Saturday opened a five-kilometer coastal road in Sorsogon that cuts traffic while offering motorists stunning ocean views. The structure also protects the area from storm surges whipped by typhoons that slam the country fromn the Pacific.
The four-lane highway is "among the grandest" ever built under the government's "Build, Build, Build" program, Transportation Sec. Mark Villar said in a statement. Sorsogon Gov. Francis Escudero led the opening.
The coastal road is open from the Sorsogon City baywalk to Barangay Balogo. Here are photos of the bridge from the Department of Public Works and Highways' Facebook page.
