Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Wednesday apologized to Vice President Leni Robredo for saying that she used an Air Force C130 cargo plane to visit typhoon-hit Catanduanes island two weeks ago.
Robredo flew on a civilian aircraft, Lorenzana said. There was one instance of a Huey helicopter used to bring relief goods from Robredo's hometown, Naga City, to Catanduanes, he said.
"I also apologize. I should have checked the veracity of the report to me," said Lorenzana.
"Yes, she is correct. She never was aboard a C130," Lorenzana, referring to Robredo.
Robredo on Thursday addressed President Rodrigo Duterte's claims in his weekly speech to the nation the night before. She said she never asked where he was at the height of the typhoon and that the president was reacting to misinformation from Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo.
Quting the report from the commander of the Air Force's Tactical Operations Group V, Lorenzana said: "...There there was no instance that VP Robredo boarded any military aircraft in going to Catanduanes."
