In an attempt to sprinkle some delight over the gloomy year that is 2020, Studio Ghibli opened its vault and shared over 400 high-resolution movie stills from their expansive catalogue of animated films for free.
A handwritten note from the Japanese animation studio's co-founder Toshio Suzuki said that the images come with just one catch: "Please use them freely within the scope of common sense."
You can use the photos to your heart's desire, including having it as your wallpaper, sharing it on social media, and posting a printout on your wall. You should be fine as long as you don't sell them for profit.
The 400 stills were pulled from 8 films in the Studio Ghibli library: When Marnie Was There, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, The Wind Rises, From Up on Poppy Hill, The Secret World of Arrietty, Ponyo, Tales from Earthsea, and Oscar winner Spirited Away.
The translated message on the webpage said the studio would release more stills from their other animated films in the coming days or weeks.
