Whether we like it or not, RFID stickers will soon be an indispensable part of the motorists' way of life. On Nov. 2, major expressways will implement fully-cashless toll collection, as mandated by the Department of Transportation. In simple words: No RFID sticker, no tollways access.

We only know at least three possible reasons some motorists have not yet availed themselves of RFID stickers: unawareness, lack of funds or time (or both) to bring their vehicles in for stickering, or skepticism about the whole system, thinking this sort of technology is still prone to technical failures.

Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) assures everyone, however, that there's nothing to worry about. The operator of North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), Cavite Expressway (Cavitex), Cavitex C5 Link, and Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) has come up with the acronym 'EASY' to give motorists tips and guidelines on the proper use of RFID stickers.

Here's what it stands for:

1) Easytrip card

This comes with each RFID sticker. Always bring this with you-you need to show the card to the tollbooth attendant in the event the scanner encounters a technical problem or you followed the vehicle ahead too closely, causing the system to fail to read your RFID sticker. In case you lose the card, proceed to MPTC-operated tollways' customer service stations to get a replacement for P100. It will be available for pickup in three days.

2) Account is registered

For stick-it-yourself Easytrip RFID users, make sure you follow the proper installation and that you register your account here for customer-service backend support.

3) Sticker condition

Make sure to keep your Easytrip RFID sticker in good condition so that it will be read by the sensors without issue at toll exits. Avoid putting direct pressure on the sticker-don't aim a pressure washer at it directly, or try to peel it off. In case the sticker is damaged, you may have it checked at RFID installation stations at no cost.

4) Your load

This is no brainer: Always ensure your Easytrip account has sufficient load before entering the tollways. Also, keep in mind that every online reloading partner has a different time frame for load activation. Click here for a complete list of Easytrip's reloading partners. You may also use the Easytrip app to check your load balance and to reload.
