If you can't cook those viral recipes yourself, Tiktok has come up with a way.
The world's fastest growing social media app is crossing over to the food scene via TikTok Kitchen, a delivery-only service that will cook up some of trendiest recipes you see on the app, such as baked feta pasta, Bloomberg reported.
The video-sharing platform said it was partnering with Virtual Dining Concepts to open around 300 of these virtual TikTok restaurants across the U.S. for the launch in March next year, with more than 1,000 of them by the end of 2022, Bloomberg said.
Hinging on the app’s most viral food trends that come and go, the menu of TikTok Kitchen will rotate quarterly, it said. It is still unclear whether baked feta pasta, which slated to be in the initial menu alongside corn ribs (air-fried strips of corn) and pasta chips (cheese coated and air-fried pasta), will be a staple.
Unlike typical cloud kitchens that operate in the Philippines, which also do not have physical restaurants but cater to multiple food brands in one outlet, TikTok Kitchens will instead make use of a restaurant's existing kitchen and employees, providing them the same training, food packaging, and TikTok-sourced recipes.
Tiktok said profits will be shared "creators" of the menu dishes as a way of supporting promising culinary talents on the platform, though it isn't clear how exactly it will determine who owns the idea behind certain viral dishes, as well as how revenue will be split.
"To be clear, this is a campaign to bring TikTok foods to fans, not a venture into the restaurant business," it told The Verge.
