Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Thursday said his party, the Nationalist People's Coalition, is considering forming an alliance with Aksyon Demokratiko party, the political bloc of his nephew, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.

Sotto, who plans to run for vice president next year, shared a photo of his meeting with some Aksyon Demokratiko party members on Wednesday night, along with Sen. Panfilo Lacson, his potential running mate.

"I'm consulting my party on the 29th to finalize," Sotto told reporters when asked if NPC was planning to coalesce with Aksyon Demokratiko, referring to the date of his party’s meeting.

Aksyon Demokratiko was founded by the late former Sen. Raul Roco. Vico serves as the party's executive vice president, while Sotto is the chairman of NPC.

Lacson and Sotto are among those poised to run for president and vice president, respectively, in the 2022 elections. Last week, they kicked off their consultative meetings in various provinces across the country to help them decide about running.

Lacson earlier said that if they both decide to run, his tandem with Sotto for the next year's polls was already "cast in stone." They are set to announce their plans for the 2022 elections on Aug. 5.
