Here Are the World's Top Favorite and Most Misunderstood Emojis in 2021

Software company Adobe released its study on emojis in time for World Emoji Day. It discussed trends and revealed users' favorite emojis and even the most misunderstood ones for 2021.

Adobe surveyed 7,000 emoji users from the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Australia, Japan, and South Korea to explore the impact of emojis on digital communication around the world.

In first place for favorite emoji is 'Face with Tears of Joy' followed by the 'Thumbs Up' in second place. Taking third is the 'Red Heart.'

Ranking fourth is 'Face Blowing a Kiss' and 'Crying Face' rounds up the top 5.

While some emojis seem straightforward, the study found that 63% of Gen Z agree that they use emojis differently than their intended meaning. A heart emoji looks like it means love, but it's very much open to interpretation.

The top three most misunderstood emojis are the 'Eggplant,' the 'Peach' and the 'Clown Face.' Perhaps the message goes beyond a clown cooking a dish with eggplants and peaches.
