The country’s task force against COVID-19 has reclassified frontline tourism workers as A1, putting them at the top of the vaccination priority list alongside medical frontliners, according to an official document made public Friday.

In a letter addressed TO Tourism Sec. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. said the Inter-Agency Task Force approved her request to place quarantine and isolation hotel workers under the A1 priority group.

“It is high time that we protect our tourism frontliners knowing that they are risking their lives each time they show up in the designated quarantine and isolation hotels. This move shows the government's commitment to protect them. Not only will this decision help ensure the survival of the tourism industry; this will also hasten the country’s economic recovery," Puyat said.

Medical frontliners (A1), senior citizens (A2), and persons with comorbidities (A3) are currently being vaccinated nationwide. Other tourism frontliners included in the A4 category are expected to get their first dose in the coming months.
