Accio, Trailer: 'Harry Potter' Cast Return to Hogwarts on New Year's Day

Expect to see more than the Golden Trio.

Two decades and a lot of growing up later, fans of Harry Potter are in for the ultimate nostalgia trip on New Year's Day, as HBO Max on Tuesday unveiled the much-anticipated preview of its upcoming special that reunites actors and filmmakers of the magical franchise. 

Airing this Jan. 1, “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts" promises to give Potterheads from all over a dose of hope as the world enters the pandemic's third year. 

"When things get really dark and times are really hard, there's something about Harry Potter that makes life richer," actress Emma Watson, who played the character "Hermione Granger", is seen in the Gryffindor common room saying, in conversation with Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley).

“It feels like no time has passed—and loads of time has passed," Radcliffe said, revealing he used to fear "that the most meaningful thing in [their] life was done"  after the series wrapped a decade ago in 2011. But upon seeing everyone “joyous”, he said he now knows otherwise.

Taped at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London, it will feature other talents, including Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid), Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort), Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy), James Phelps (Fred Weasley), Oliver Phelps (George Weasley), Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley), Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas), Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) and Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood).

Filmmakers David Heyman, Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell and David Yates will also be there. 

Notably absent is series creator J.K. Rowling, who is currently under fire for a statement she made against transgender people, an occurence that has become common in the past years which several cast members (including Racliffe) have publicly countered before.
