The Traslacion or Black Nazarene procession in downtown Manila, usually thronged by millions of barefoot devotees, will be cancelled for the second straight year in January due to the pandemic, church authorities said Friday.
Other activities during the feast of the Black Nazarene will continue, said Douglas Badong, the parochial vicar of Quiapo Church.
“Wala lang pong prusisyon gaya nang 2021,” Badong of the Minor Basilica of Black Nazarene told reportr.
There will be a thanksgiving motorcade on Dec. 30, and replica blessing from Dec. 27 to 29, Badong said.
“Tuloy pa rin po ang pagdiriwang. Mas lalong dapat natin ipagdiwang ang dami Pagpapasalamat sa Nazareno kahit walang prusisyon.”
Millions of devotees, some barefoot, flock to the city of Manila every Jan. 9 for the annual Black Nazarene procession from the Quirino Grandstand to its home, Quiapo church.
