Dante on Track to Make Landfall in Eastern Samar: PAGASA

Tropical Storm Dante (Choi-Wan) is likely to make landfall over Eastern Samar as early as Tuesday evening, based on its current track, bringing heavy rains to the Eastern Visayas region, PAGASA said.

At 4 a.m., the fourth storm of the year was located at 310 km east of Surigao City, packing maximum sustained winds of up to 75 kph ang gusts of up to 90 kph. It is likely to make landfall, said PAGASA.

Dante will liley pass over the Camarines Sur, Catanduanes area Wednesday afternoon before turning northwards on its way out of the country, the weather bureau said.

Signal no. 1, or winds of 30-60 kph may be experienced in at least 36 hours, is up over these areas:

  • southeastern portion of Quezon (Tagkawayan, Guinayangan, Buenavista, San Narciso, San Andres)

  • northern portion of Cebu (Catmon, Sogod, Borbon, Tabogon, City of Bogo, Medellin, Daanbantayan, San Remigio, Tabuelan) including Bantayan and Camotes Islands

MINDANAO

  • Northern portion of Surigao del Sur (San Agustin, Marihatag, Cagwait, City of Tandag, Bayabas, Tago, Cortes, Lanuza, Carmen, Madrid, Cantilan, Carrascal, San Miguel)
  • Northern portion of Agusan del Sur (Sibagat)
  • Northern portion of Agusan del Norte (City of Cabadbaran, Santiago, Tubay, Jabonga, Kitcharao)
  • Dinagat Islands
  • Surigao del Norte

PAGASA also warned of rough seas over the seaboards of Eastern Samar, Samar, and Northern Samar, meaning sea travel is risky for small seacrafts.
