Two million AstraZeneca vaccine doses arrived in the Philippines on Friday as supply shortages forced some cities to suspend scheduling for first doses.
The Emirates plane carrying 2,028,000 doses arrived at NAIA Terminal 3 at 4 p.m., one day after the Philippines received Japan's donation of one million AstraZeneca vaccines.
The latest shipment, courtesy of the COVAX global facility, brings the total number of AstraZeneca doses delivered to the Philippines to 5,708,100.
The AstraZeneca vaccine, which has shown an average efficacy of 70% in clinical trials, is part of the Philippines' vaccine portfolio that includes Sinovac, Sputnik V, Moderna, and Pfizer.
The country is eyeing to inoculate at least 70 million of its people this year to achieve its target of "population protection" by November.
