Approaching Typhoon Mindulle will stir thunderstorms in eastern portions of Southern Luzon and the Visayas as it moves towards the Philippines' Pacific coast on Wednesday, PAGASA said.

The storm will take the local name Lannie once it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility within the day, the weather bureau said.

At 4 a.m., Mindulle was outside PAR, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kph and 215 kph gusts.

"Dahil malayo ito sa ating bansa, tanging ang trough o extension lamang nitong si Mindulle ang nakakaapekto po sa eastern sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas," said state weather forecaster Benison Estareja.

The storm is unlikely to hit land in the Philippines and is headed to Japan, PAGASA said.
