The United Kingdom will donate 415,000 AstraZeneca vaccines to the Philippines, part of a broader effort to help the world ramp up immunizations against COVID-19, its envoy to Manila said.
In total, the UK is donating nine million AstraZeneca vaccines to various countries, Ambassador Daniel Pruce said late Wednesday. The UK has enough vaccines for its own people.
Five million of the vaccines will be donated via the global COVAX alliance while the rest will be shared directly by the UK government. Shipments will start as early as this week, Pruce said.
Sec. Carlito Galvez, the chief implementer of the Philippines' COVID-19 response, thanked the Uk for the donation.
