Severe Tropical Storm Ulysses was on track to hit areas still reeling from Super Typhoon Rolly late on Wednesday and lash large parts of Luzon overnight, PAGASA said, as it advised the public to stay indoors and brace for floods, rough seas and storm surges in coastal areas.
Ulysses (international name Vamco) could slam into the Polilio Islands off Quezon province at 11 p.m. , PAGASA forecaster Chris Perez said. Based on alternate forecasts, it could turn south, making landfall in northern Bicol or north to Aurora province, he said.
From Quezon, Ulysses will pass through Bulacan before heading out of the Luzon land mass via Zambales, he said. It will be closest to Metro Manila between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. Thursday, he said.
At 4 a.m., Ulysses was spotted 180 km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 100 kph with 125 kph gusts, PAGASA said. It could intensify into a typhoon before landfall, Perez said.
MORE ON ROLLY AFTERMATH:
The storm's winds are strong enough to topple trees and electric posts and damage houses, he said.
Heavy rains are likely over the country's eastern seaboard as Ulysses stirs rain clouds. As of mid-morning Wednesday, rainfall warnings have been raised in Aurora and Cagayan.
