Pasig City residents posted photos of their Christmas ayuda bags over the weekend, thanking Mayor Vico Sotto for prioritizing food on the table instead of Christmas lights on the streets.

The ayuda bags, which were not stamped with Sotto's image, were distributed as former Mayor Bobby Eusebio rued the absence of Christmas lights in the city: "Walang parol? Walang kumukutitap sa kalsada? Hindi maramdaman ang diwa ng Pasko. Pandemic pa din ba ang dahilan? Dito sa atin, ito ang makikita sa ating Lungsod…"

Sotto, who ended the Eusebio political dynasty in the 2019 elections, said that there were less streets covered in lights, and that Eusebio was probably yet to roam the city to spot them.

"Nag-fofocus tayo sa mga bagay na sa tingin namin, mas importante. Dati, ang nabibigyan lang ng pamaskong handog kung sino lang malapit sa nakaupo. Ngayon binibigyan natin lahat ng household, may pamaskong handog," Sotto said.

Sotto gave updates on Pamaskong Handog in late November and posted the contents of each bag amounting to P625.67. Some residents have received theirs and let the mayor know via his Twitter account.

"Higit sa kasiyahang ibinibigay sa atin ng pandagdag-Noche Buena na ito, patotoo ang Pamaskong Handog na posible ang paggogobyerno na pantay-pantay ang tingin sa bawat isa, kaibigan man o hindi," he said.

A distribution schedule is posted daily on Pasig City's Facebook page. Residents in condominiums will also receive a Pamaskong Handog bag.

Eusebio was mayor from 2007 to 2013 and 2016 to 2019. Sotto defeated him in the 2019 elections, ending the 27-year long reign of the Eusebios in Pasig City, with a promise of transparency and combatting traditional politics.
