Vilma Santos Eyes Senate Run, Ralph Recto for Congressman in 2022

Deputy Speaker Vilma Santos-Recto is considering running for senator in the 2022 elections, while her husband, Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto, said Tuesday he was eyeing to replace her in the House of Representatives.

"We've been discussing here in the house if she wants to run for the Senate. That's a possibility. She might run for the Senate, I might take her place in the House as well," Sen. Recto told ANC in an interview on Tuesday.

"We're watching the developments. Maybe within a month and a half to two months, we'll decide on that," he added.

Santos-Recto, who was dubbed as the "Star for All Seasons" in Philippine cinema, has been serving as the representative of the sixth district of Batangas since 2016.

She was among the nominees of the 1Sambayan opposition coalition for president and vice president in the 2022 elections, but the lawmaker said she had not plans yet for the upcoming polls and she was focused on her legislative duties in the House.

Sen. Recto, on the other hand, has reached his two-term limit in the Senate, having served in the chamber since 2010. He was first elected senator in 2001 after representing the fourth district of Batangas in the House.
