Filipinos who have yet to register for the 2022 national elections will have to sign up for it before or after the lockdown or ECQ, the Commission on Election said Tuesday.
Comelec will close its physical offices to registrants during ECQ, scheduled on Aug. 6 to 20 in Metro Manila, Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said.
"To be clear, voter registration will be suspended beginning Aug. 6, or the same day the ECQ takes effect. Til then, puwede pang #MagparehistroKa," Jimenez said.
Comelec is unlikely to extend the voter registration, which will end on Sept. 30, said Jimenez. Sen. Risa Hontiveros earlier urged the commission to extend the registration period to two more weeks.
