Families who lost loved ones to COVID-19 can now hold wakes for their cremated remains, Malacañang said Friday as the country continued to battle a surge driven by the Delta variant.
The policy will apply throughout the country regardless of the community quarantine status, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.
"Isa pang binago ay ang pagpayag sa lamay na crinemate na namatay sa COVID-19 regardless of community quarantine. Ito ay effective immediately," he said.
Wakes for COVID-19 fatalities however will still be limited to immediate family members who should observe minimum public health standards.
Remains of persons who died of COVID-19 are usually cremated to avoid the further spread of the disease that has claimed over 37,000 lives and has infected some 2.4 million people in the country.
