The first COVID-19 vaccine shot in the Philippines was administered on Monday, almost a year after quarantines were put in place, a video from the Department of Health showed.

The first vaccine dose was given to Dr. Gerardo Legaspi, the Philippine General Hospital Director. Nurse Chareluck Santos delivered the dose.

The Sinovac vaccines were distributed to Metro Manila hospitals on Monday morning after President Rodrigo Duterte received the shipments from China at the Villamore Airbase on Sunday.

The ceremonial innoculation will kick off a nationwide vaccination plan that will prioritize pandemic frontliners.
