Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri on Monday said he would seek reelection in 2022 as an independent candidate along with several other incumbent and former senators.

Zubiri said he and other officials seeking reelection in the Senate have decided to run as independent candidates together as a "performance team."

These are House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda, Sorsogon Gov. Chiz Escudero, and Senators Sherwin Gatchalian, Joel Villanueva, and Richard Gordon.

"We'll be running as a performance team," Zubiri said in a Laging Handa briefing.

"Tumatakbo ako bilang independent but of course we have an alliance with the administration. Supportive naman tayo sa administration programs," he said.

The 52-year-old Zubiri boasts of a perfect attendance record in his 15 years in legislative work as a congressman and as a senator.
