Former President Joseph Estrada will be discharged from the hospital on Monday, his eldest son said after nearly a month under medical care due to COVID-19.
The 84-year-old Estrada got infected with COVID-19 in late March and had to be placed under intensive care twice. He celebrated his 84th birthday in the hospital.
"Our family is overjoyed to announce that our father will finally be discharged from the hospital today," former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada said.
"We would like to express our gratitude to his doctors for their expertise and care. We would like to thank everyone who prayed with us and supported us through this harrowing experience," he added.
Erap to his supporters, Estrada is the only Filipino movie star to be elected to the presidency, forever blurring the line between politics and showbiz in a democracy where popularity and image are the main selling points.
