Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will seek a political comeback in the 2022 elections, her eldest son Mikey said Saturday, a few days ahead of the filing of certificates of candidacies.
Arroyo will run as congressional representative of the 2nd District of her hometown Pampanga next year, three years since she retired from politics, her son Mikey confirmed to reportr.
"She’s going to run under the Lakas CMD shes running for Congress 2nd district," Mikey told ABS-CBN News.
“Her talents should be utilized by the Kapampangans, Kapampangans will benefit from her talents she’s obviously more brilliant than I am," he added.
Arroyo retired from politics in 2019 after serving as President Rodrigo Duterte's house speaker -- the first woman to hold the post.
The former president will run under her Lakas-CMD political party according to her eldest son.
Mikey said he would no longer run in next year's elections but would instead serve as his mother's campaign manager.
Should the elder Arroyo win in next year's elections, it would be her fourth non-consecutive term as a congresswoman.
