Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia said on Tuesday her party has endorsed Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. for president in the May 9 elections, pitching his candidacy to 3.25 million Cebuano voters, the most for any province in the country.
One Cebu's endorsement for Marcos came following weeks of consultations and discussions with the provincial, municipal, and barangay leaders in Cebu, Garcia said in a statement.
"We have determined that the unity and strength of One Cebu, its ability to serve its constituents in the province of Cebu, and ultimately, the interests of the Cebuanos are best served if we unite behind the leadership of BBM as President," she added.
One Cebu earlier endorsed the candidacy of Marcos' running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Duterte-Carpio thanked Garcia and One Cebu for formally endorsing her and Marcos.
"Makakaasa po ang lahat ng Cebuano sa tapat na paglilingkod, at walang pagod na pagtulong para sa lahat lalo na ang maliliit," she said in a Facebook post.
Back in October, Duterte-Carpio met with Marcos in Cebu as they attended the birthday party of Tingog Sinirangan party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez, stirring talk of a possible tandem.
Following the meeting, Duterte-Carpio denied that a possible partnership was discussed, as she was still running for reelection in Davao City at that time. A few weeks later, she withdrew her candidacy for mayor and decided to run for vice president with Marcos as her running mate.
