More commuters can ride public transport in Metro Manila and surrounding areas starting Nov. 4, Malacañang said Friday as the government approved the gradual increase of passenger capacityto move the economy faster.
Buses, trains, jeeps and vans will be able to ferry up to 70% capacity from the current 50%, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.
The Department of Transportation said the pilot implementation would last for a month. Metro Manila remains under Alert Level 3, which allows essential and leisure industries to operate at limited capacities, until Nov. 14.
Varying lockdowns since March 2020 have put many public utility drivers either out of work or operating at a loss. Authorities earlier this week said some 178,000 drivers would get cash aid worth a total P1 billion to help them cope with rising fuel prices.
