A Nayong Pilipino Foundation property in Parañaque City will be the first stadium to be used by the government to speed up COVID-19 vaccination efforts, the Department of Health said Wednesday.
The government aims to ramp up its immunization program to around 500,000 shots per day, DOH spokesperson Usec. Maria Rosario Vergeire said, as virus variants fuel a surge in infections.
"Ang una pong gagamitin na malaking stadium or malaking place ay ang Nayong Pilipino," Vergeire said in an interview on GMA-7's 'Unang Hirit.'
"Nagkaroon na po ng kasunduan with the Department of Tourism sina Sec. Galvez para magamit natin ito as a huge vacicnation site," she added.
From health workers last month, the vaccination program was extended to the elderly and those with comorbidities, who are at higher risk of severe COVID.
Vaccinations in the country topped one million with more jabs from Sinovac, AstraZeneca, and Russia's Gamaleya Institute expected to be available this month, Malacanang earlier said.
