Presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos on Wednesday said he would focus on filling the government with "brilliant" individuals in his first 100 days in office should he win in the May 9 elections.

It's not enough for government officials to be experts in their fields, they should also able to run the department or agency assigned to them, Marcos told the Kapihan sa Manila Bay.

"We have to find the people who know that job, who have been working at it, maybe in the private sector, maybe in the public sector. But those who have a great deal of expertise and can bring that expertise to bear on that job," he added.

According to Marcos, the people that should handle key government positions must understand what the president wants to do and agree with how he or she does it.

"So you have to find some really good people who understand what you're trying to do, who agree with you on the method with which you do it, who understand the bureaucracy," he said.

"Starting on the right foot is to have the right people, and the right people who are competent, better than competent, excellent on their job, and with an understanding on how you're going to do it, who agree that this is what needs to be done," he said.

Marcos previously said he was open to working with anyone, including those in the opposition, should he win the presidency for the sake of unity.

The son of the late dictator is currently the frontrunner in many pre-election surveys, with the latest Pulse Asia poll placing him 45 percentage points ahead of his closest rival, Vice President Leni Robredo.
