The Philippines on Thursday reported 17,411 additional COVID-19 infections with a week of Alert Level 4 left for the capital region.

The day's cases brought the total active cases to 165,790. The Department of Health also reported 14,090 new recoveries and 177 deaths.

A total of 2,434,753 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began, of which 2,231,558 have recovered and 37,405 died.

Alert Level 4 in all areas of Metro Manila is expected to end on Sept. 30. Certain areas are under granular lockdown due to high case counts driven by Delta, which is now the dominant variant in the country.

President Rodrigo Durterte in his weekly address said face shields may be skipped in outdoor areas, but are still required in closed, crowded, and close contact areas.
