A woman gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday while onboard a Philippine Airlines flight from Doha, Qatar to Manila.
Baby Scarlett Ann was born at 7:20 a.m. on Nov. 20, just two hours and a half before flight PR685 carrying 320 passengers arrived in Manila, PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said. Capt. Rainiel Viola led the flight.
The plane's cabin crew worked together in handling the inflight birth. Two of the crew members, Merian Buan Ventura and Philip King Aguilar, are registered nurses, while Marc Anthony Cue, Clinton Ros, Ann Claire Reboron, and Scarlett Mercado assisted them.
Teresa May Buiza, the mother, decided to name her child after the flight attendants who assisted her in giving birth, Villaluna said.
"Congratulations to our cabin crew who are safety professionals --- highly-trained to deal with extraordinary onboard situations. Congratulations to mother and child," she added.
