Philippines Records 18,012 COVID-19 Cases as MECQ Ends in Metro

The Philippines logged 18,012 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday as Metro Manila prepared for granular lockdowns after MECQ.

The day's total brought the cumulative total since the pandemic began to 2,121,308. There are 158,637 active cases.

There were 161 deaths and 18,945 recoveries recorded, bringing totals to 34,398 and 1,928,173 respectively.

Metro Manila is set to pilot granular or street-level lockdowns starting Sept. 8 when it shifts to GCQ. The shift to granular lockdowns is only for testing so far, and not yet for implementation nationwide according to MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos.
