Singapore President Invites Bongbong Marcos For State Visit

Singaporean President Halimah Yacob has invited presumptive president Bongbong Marcos for a state visit to her country as she congratulated him onhis victory in the May 9 elections.

“On behalf of the people of the Republic of Singapore, I warmly congratulate you on your electoral success,” Yacob said in a letter addressed to Marcos.

Yacob noted the "warm and longstanding" relationship Singapore and the Philippines share. She said she looks forward to working with Marcos to strengthen the friendship between the two countries.

“I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to make a State Visit to Singapore. I wish you every success in steering the Philippines to greater heights," Yacob told Marcos.

Yacob is the latest world leader to congratulate Marcosafter U.S. President Joe Biden, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Marcos is headed to a landslide win after garnering more than 31 million votes according to the partial and unofficial count from the Commission on Elections' transparency server.

The canvassing of votes and proclamation of the winning candidates for president and vice president is set for next week once Congress resumes session.
