18,528 New COVID Cases Tallied as More Delta Cases Confirmed

The Philippines on Sunday tallied 18,528 new COVID-19 infections as more cases of the Delta variant were detected, official data showed. 

This brought active cases of COVID-19 to 143,221. A total of 17,992 new recoveries and 101 deaths were also reported, the Department of Health said. 

Overall, a total of 1,954,023 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 1,777,693 have recovered and 33,109 died.

The DOH on Sunday said 516 new Delta variant cases were detected in the country, of which six are still active, while five have died, and 505 have recovered.

Majority of the new Delta cases, 114, are in Metro Manila, where the MECQ was extended until Sept. 7.
