9,661 New COVID Cases Confirmed as Cumulative Tally Nears 1 Million

The Philippines on Saturday reported 9,661 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country's cumulative total since the start of the pandemic closer to 1 million.

Active COVID-19 cases stood at 89,485, the Department of Health said. Since the start of the pandemic, the country has recorded a total of 989,389 COVID-19 cases.

There were 145 new deaths reported and 22,877 new recoveries bringing the totals to 16,674 and 883,221 respectively.

Until the end of April, the Greater Manila Area is under modified enhanced community quarantine as the country seeks to contain a surge in COVID-19 infections overwhelming the healthcare system.
