The Philippine Air Force said it evacuated 96 people from the rooftop of SM Mega Tower on Thursday after parts of the newly-opened building caught fire.

A military helicopter made 15 round trips to extract civilians, the Air Force said on Facebook.
Volunteer firefighters of the Marikina Filipino-Chinese Fire Brigade said they responded to a fire that broke out at the 27th floor of the building. The cause had not been determined.
The fire, first noticed at around 10 a.m., was declared put out by the Bureau of Fire Protection after six hours.
