The 1Sambayan opposition coalition on Sunday said it would enlist the help of a professional pollster to hold a survey on its presidential and vice presidential nominees after a data breach last month forced the scrapping of an online voting portal.

The coalition on June 12 experienced a data breach after its mobile membership app was hacked as it announced its nominees for the 2022 elections.

It was supposed to open a voting portal this July through which its members and the public could pick the final nominees of the coalition.

"But because our volunteer management app was hacked, we prioritized the protection of the public. Personal information — like email address and/or mobile phone number — were required to prevent multiple voting," 1Sambayan said in a statement.

"As such, 1Sambayan has instead, decided to engage the services of a professional pollster to conduct a preferential survey on our Presidential and Vice Presidential nominees. This, along with the other selection criteria, will help in choosing our candidates," it added.
