Can Ivermectin Users Get Vaccinated for COVID?

People who use Ivermectin for COVID-19 treatment can get vaccinated for the disease, the Department of Health said Friday, even as authorities do not recommend the use of the anti-parasitic drug to treat the viral infection.

There is "no problem" in taking both the vaccine and Ivermectin, said DOH spokesperson Usec. Maria Rosario Vergeire.

"Gusto ko lang ipaalala ulit na ang Ivermectin po ay hindi pa po natin nirerekomenda para sa mga treatment ng COVID-19. Base po sa mga pag-aaral, ganoon pa rin ang lumalabas na wala po siyang binibigay na positive effect sa ating katawan kung tayo ay may COVID-19," she added.

Ivermectin is used as an anti-parasitic both for animals and humans.

While there are proponents of Ivermectin as COVID-19 treatment, the local Food and Drug Administration has yet to approve the use of the drug for such purpose. Last week, the FDA said it granted one hospital's application for  "compassionate use" of Ivermectin for humans, calling it an "investigational product" against COVID-19.
