Punctured Gas Pipe Likely Sparked BGC Fire That Left 1 Hurt

An on-duty project safety officer was hurt in a huge fire that hit a construction site in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, local authorities said Thursday.

The officer was in the area around 6 p.m. Wednesday when a construction worker accidentally struck a gas pipe, causing an explosion that sparked the fire, initial reports said. The blaze was put out at 9:35 p.m.

The safety officer is in stable condition. There were no fatalities, authorities said.

Some commercial properties in the vicnity of the fire were evacuated following the incident. Construction will remain suspended whole while investigation and safety assessment is ongoing, authorities said.
