PNP chief General Guillermo Eleazar said Wednesday said border checkpoints in Metro Manila will be removed when the capital region shifts to an alert-based quarantine system starting Sept. 16.
Metro Manila will be placed under Alert Level 4 from Thursday. It's second strictest under the new five-tier system and is similar to MECQ under the previous community quarantine set-up.

"Wala na tayong checkpoint na operation dahil nakita natin na uniform naman itong alert level 4," Eleazar told GMA News.
The PNP will instead send personnel to areas under granular lockdowns which will be determined by the local government.
Unlike the previous ECQ-MECQ-GCQ-MGCQ system, buildings, villages and streets will be locked down instead of entire cities and provinces. However, Alerts 1 to 5 will determine which establishments can be open and at what capacities.
