The Philippines logged 8,564 new COVID-19 cases on Friday as authorities prepare to implement new testing and quarantine protocols for returning Filipinos.
The day's tally brought active cases to 151,389, with a total of 10,474 new recoveries and 46 new deaths reported.
Overall, a total of 3,594,002 COVID-19 cases have been counted since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 3,388,399 have recovered and 54,214 died.
Alert Level 2 in Metro Manila and seven other provinces is expected to last until Feb. 15. Also under the second lowest set of restrictions are the provinces of Batanes, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, Biliran, Southern Leyte, and Basilan.
Alert Level 2 means children can still go outdoors for leisure activities, and industries are allowed to operate at bigger capacities based on guidelines issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 response.
All returning Filipinos need to register with the One Health Pass prior to arrival, Cabinet Sec. Karlo Nograles said.
Fully vaccinated OFWs are required to present proof of vaccination and a negative RT-PCR test taken at least 48 hours prior departure from country of origin. Upon arrival, they will no longer be required to observe mandatory facility-based quarantine, but must self-monitor for seven days.
Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals must present a negative RT-PCR test, quarantine at a facility, then self-monitor under home quarantine. Check out additional guidelines for minors and adults who test positive.
