The Philippines on Thursday tallied 1,974 new COVID-19 cases as the alert level-based quarantine system goes nationwide in an attempt to avoid large-scale lockdowns.
The day's tally brought active cases to 28,660. The Department of Health also reported 2,388 new recoveries and 142 new deaths.
Overall, a total of 2,811,248 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,737,722 have recovered and 44,866 died.
The Alert Level System is a five-tier restriction system that determines how much people can move around and by how much businesses and establishments can open. Nationwide implementation beyond the National Capital Region and select areas will be done in phases.
This means that the acronyms ECQ, MECQ, GCQ, MGCQ (including those with "heightened restrictions" and "some restrictions") will soon be a thing of the past, including the "tiny bubbles."
