975 COVID Cases Tallied Ahead of National Vaccination Days

Fewer than 1,000 cases again.

The Philippines on Thursday tallied 975 new COVID-19 cases ahead of the three-day national vaccination program.

The day's tally brought active cases to 17,796.  The Department of Health also reported 1,029 recoviers and 193 deaths.

Overall, a total of 2,829,618 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,763,947 recovered and 47,875 died.

The DOH also removed 17 duplicates from the tally, 15 of which were recoveries. A total of 181 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries and were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday declared Nov. 29 to Dec. 1 as "Bayanihan, Bakunahan" National COVID-19 Vaccination Days, sandwiching the non-working holiday Bonifacio Day, to speed up inoculations. The country has so far vaccinated 24 million Filipinos out of its goal of 50 million by the end of the year.

According to the World Health Organization, vaccines reduce transmission of the dominant and more transmissible Delta variant by about 40%.
