9,671 New COVID Cases Confirmed as NKTI Declares Full Capacity

The Philippines on Sunday tallied 9,671 COVID-19 new cases, as one government hospital said it was at full capacity.

Sunday's tally brought the total number of active cases to 77,516. The Department of Health also tallied 287 deaths and 8,079 recoveries.

Metro Manila is on the third day of the strictest form of lockdown or ECQ which seeks to halt the spread of the hyper-contagious Delta coronavirus variant. 

Vaccinations are also being ramped up. The capital city, Manila, will start 24/7 immunizations late Sunday night. The Philippines has so far fully vaccinated 10 million people, compared to the target 50 million to 70 million this year.
