The Philippines on Sunday logged 402 new COVID-19 cases as the government continues to inoculate fully vaccinated adults with booster shots to increase their immunity against the disease.
The day's tally brought active cases to 11,255, with a total of 509 new recoveries and 184 new deaths reported.
Overall, a total of 2,836,592 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,775,057 have recovered and 50,280 died.
The government started rolling out third dose or booster jabs to fully-vaccinated adults last Dec. 3, for those who have had a six-month interval from their second dose.
While the new Omicron variant poses greater danger for Filipinos, the Department of Health said a fully vaccinated individual only needs a third jab.
Authorities are also studying the possibility of annual or semi-annual administration of booster shots, depending on the immunity the vaccines provide and the emerging coronavirus variants.
