The Philippines on Sunday logged 433 new COVID-19 cases, less than a week before Filipinos welcome the new year and the third year of the pandemic.

The day's tally brought active cases to 9,522, with a total of 283 new recoveries and 13new deaths reported.

Overall, a total of 2,838,640 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,777,918 have recovered and 51,200 died.

Alert Level 2 for the entire country is set to last until Dec. 31 despite the detection of Omicron cases. Three cases have been identified so far, the latest one being an overseas Filipino worker in Cebu from Qatar.

To prevent a possible holiday surge, the Department of Health advised Filipinos to skip buffets and keep holiday gatherings to a minimum.
