The Philippines logged 9,493 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, the first day of Metro Manila's return to Alert Level 2.
The day's tally brought active cases to 176,053 , with a total of 24,210 new recoveries and 51 new deaths reported.
Overall, a total of 3,569,665 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 3,339,558 have recovered and 54,054 died.
Along with Metro Manila, seven other provinces have been placed under Alert Level starting Tuesday as the country sees a decline in COVID-19 cases. These are the provinces of Batanes, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, Biliran, Southern Leyte, and Basilan.
Alert Level 2 means children can still go outdoors for leisure activities, and industries are allowed to operate at bigger capacities based on guidelines issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 response.
The Alert Level 2 in Metro Manila and in other provinces will be in effect until Feb. 15.
