The Philippines on Sunday confirmed 11,028 new COVID-19 cases, as the lockdown in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces was extended for another week at least.
The country now has 135,526 active COVID-19 cases, according to the Department of Health. Sunday's tally was lower than the 12,576 cases the day before. A record 15,310 cases was confirmed on April 2, including 3,709 in backlogs from two days prior.
As the Philippines battles a fresh wave that is overwhelming hospitals, the cumulative total now stood at 795,051 cases, 13,425 deaths and 646,100 recoveries. There were two new deaths and 41,205 new recoveries on Sunday.
