The BGC-Ortigas Center Link which will divert traffic from EDSA and shorten travel time for motorists shuttling between Makati and Mandaluyong is set to open on June 12, authorities said.
Public Works Sec. Mark Villar did a test drive on the fully asphalted bridge last Friday, right on track for its target opening date. Photos showed complete pavement markings and streetlights.
The P1.793-billion bridge has four lanes and crosses the Pasig River. It is composed of a lane viaduct along with a widened road. Once complete, it is seen to divert 20% of EDSA's traffic, Villar added.
BGC in Taguig and the Ortigas Central Business District will only be 12 minutes apart once the bridge opens. Following the link's June opening, the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge in Manila is expected to finish construction in July as part of the EDSA decongestion project.
