Manila Starts Free Drive Thru RT-PCR Swab Tests

The City of Manila said it would start on Monday, January 18, free drive thru swab testing for COVID-19, accompanying its efforts to secure vaccines with aggressive testing.

Up to 100 RT-PCR tests will be done everyday at the Quirino Grandstand from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. It will be strictly by appointment, the city government said on Facebook.

The RT-PCR is the most definitive test for COVID-19, according to health authorities. It involves getting samples from the mouth and nose using a long cotton swab.

The Philippine Red Cross, among the largest providers of RT-PCR testing, is pushing for a saliva-based method that is cheaper and faster.
