President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday asked Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles to be his acting spokesperson, replacing Harry Roque who quit his job to run for senator.
Duterte told Nograles during a taped Cabinet meeting that aired close to midnight that he would serve as spokesman until a permanent replacement is found.
"I don't want to burden you with so much," the President said.
Roque on Monday hosted his last press conference as presidential spokesperson and filed his candidacy for senator as a substitute.
In 2020, Nograles also functioned as the spokesperson for the inter-agency task force on COVID-19 response at the start of the pandemic.
He ceased giving press briefings on pandemic response updates after Roque returned as Duterte's spokesperson.
