President Rodrigo Duterte is "considering" running for senator next year, Malacañang said Friday ahead of the deadline for substitution of candidates for the 2022 elections.
Duterte's partymates in PDP-Laban had been convincing him to join the senatorial race in the 2022 elections after the chief executive aborted plans to run for vice president.
"As far as I know, wala pa pong final na decision but as Sen Bong Go said, he is considering it," Roque said of Duterte's possible Senate bid.
Duterte has remained popular among Filipinos that even as his net satisfaction ratings fell in September, it remained within "very good" levels.
While he initially announced plans to run for vice president, Duterte instead endorsed his longtime aide Sen. Bong Go for the post and said in October that he was retiring from politics after his term.
